ALMIGHTY hits comic books stores Dec 2007
"This is an ambitious and well-crafted tale of survival, following a young girl who is just trying to survive a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Writer/artist Laroche does a wonderful job of communicating action and doesn't rely too much on exposition to let the reader know what's going on.
This is a comic told in broad action strokes that are communicated clearly without an overuse of panels slowing down the pace of the story.
There are some really intense action scenes peppered throughout, but it's action with heft because the writer does a good job of building investment in these characters.
Nicely paced, well paneled, and tightly wound, this was one heck of a frantic ride that ends on a note more tender than I expected.

Josh Becker’s “Running Time” highjacks the December 4th Mitten Movie Project beginning at 7:30 pm at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak.
Local Detroiter Director-writer-producer Josh Becker decided to shoot his fourth feature film, Running Time, both in real time and as one continuous shot.
It’s a technique that hasn’t been used in a feature film since Hitchcock’s Rope (1948).
Straying from the safety of a sound stage, he ventures out on location with his camera rolling.
A feat that intriguing to watch and makes a it seem like a live show.
The story pivots around and stars Bruce Campbell, local boy done well in Hollywood, as Carl just released from prison where he did five years for robbery, where he develops a plan that involves robbing a local front for the prison laundry operation.
His not-so-bright buddy Patrick (Jeremy Roberts) sets up the necessary elements for the heist, within minutes of his release from prison he sets the plan in motion.
Almost immediately on implementation, the plan starts to fail. Patrick has hired a junky, Donny (Gordon Jennison) to drive the getaway van, misidentified the model of the safe and in ultimate stupidity shoots an elderly guard during the robbery—then, things get bad.
Shot in stark black and white with a necessarily linear storyline that sums up the past as well as the present, the film moves quickly and deftly.
There are no cuts, the story is shot in real time as a continuous shot.

JOHN WATERS at the Crofoot Ballroom
THURSDAY DECEMBER 13
Doors at 7:30, show at 8:30
tickets: $30
Legendary filmmaker and raconteur John Waters (“Pink Flamingos,” “Hairspray,” “A Dirty Shame”) rides his sleigh full of smut once again this year, spreading the good cheer of his critically acclaimed one-man show, “A John Waters Christmas”.
Like a wayward Santa for the Christmas obsessed, Waters delivers seasonal observations as only he can imagine in a rapid-fire monologue that puts the “X” in X-mas – exploring and exploding holiday archetypes.
Mr. Waters is currently riding high on another creative wave playing the “Groom Reaper” in the CourtTV series, “Til Death Do Us Part”.
You can also see him in “This Filthy World,” the Jeff Garlin-directed film of Waters’ spoken word act that has been performed at colleges, universities and film festivals for 30 years.
And finally, following up the success of his Yuletide compilation CD “A John Waters Christmas” – an Amazon.com bestseller two years running - New Line Records and John Waters released, “A Date With John Waters” on Valentine’s Day, 2007.
With special musical guests LAVENDER DIAMOND!
7:30 doors, $30 in advance, and it's all ages.

CALLING FOR ART-O-MAT SUBMISSIONS!!
Message from Took Gallagher of Art-O-Mat Michigan calling for Artist Submissions:
"Hello!
MY personal mission with the Michigan Art-o-mat® is to help other local artists -- and emerging artists -- to submit their art for inclusion in the Art-o-mat® Project.
And to help you in the process I am hosting "Arto-Submission Sessions".
ALL artists must submit prototypes for consideration in the Art-o-mat® Project.
I do not make the final decision on anything -- but I can help guide you in the Submission Process and show you strategies to help you to get your prototypes accepted the first time through.
Basically this is how it works: You submit 2 fully ready-to-vend prototypes to Artists in Cellophane (the parent organization for Art-o-mat®) and once you get the confirmation that your work has been accepted, you make a series of 50 ready-to-vend pieces and send them to Artists in Cellophane (AIC) for distribution to Art-o-mat® machines across the country.
Because the artpacks are going into vintage machines, there are very strict size and packaging guidelines that must be followed. I come to these Sessions with 3 unique viewpoints: Arto-Collector, Arto-Artist and Art-o-mat® Host -- and each viewpoint offers different areas to consider.
There will be no charge for the Sessions. I will show how to create artwork to meet AIC guidelines and discuss the best way to make personal connections with the people who buy art from our machines. I will supply you with 2 free "official" boxes/blocks and the cellophane to wrap them. Supplies are available for sale directly from AIC.
I am currently compiling a list of interested individuals and I would like to host our first Session during the 2nd week of December. The exact day and time are still open (the 7th, 8th, + 9th are not available)
Please contact me here at my MySpace page with the subject line "AOM Sessions". Let me know if you prefer a day/evening and give me one or two specific days of the week/weekend. The first Session will take place here in Northville.
I am also available to come to your Michigan location for a Session with your group.
I look forward to hearing from you and I am happy to answer any questions you may have!
