MCB-VIDEO - MOTORCITYBLOG on Fox Sports Net
MCB was contacted by one of the Fox Sports Net producers while in town for the Seattle Mariners/Detroit Tigers series last week and they wanted show footage from local detroit bands to produce a local scene showcase. So we gave them a bunch of our videos and they made up a shortie that ran in Seattle and on Direct TV highlighting some of the bands here in town.

The Budget Sinners
Friday May 30th 2008
PJ's Lager House
1254 Michigan Ave
Detroit MI

The Budget Sinners is fronted by Detroit veteran Tim Pak (ex-Salt miners, Angry Red Planet) on vocals and guitar, features hard-hitting drumming from Ryan Looney and the bass playing of Ed Sertage. Eric James Myers, previously of Warhorses, brings the licks on lead guitar.
The Budget Sinners' music is Americana at its best! Featuring songs of love, work, parties, crimes, hard times and salvation TBS define working life and times. It's time to break out the whiskey.
w/Caleb Travers and Big City Lights & the Blue Rubys
Caleb Travers and Big City Lights caught their first break in 2007 after receiving an encore at an open mic night and were then given an opening slot for the Austin-based indie-pop quartet What Made Milwaukee Famous. The group has also shared the stage with Bobby Bare, Jr. Come check out one of alt-country's rising stars before they hit the pages of No Depression.
The Blue Rubys are a California-based female trio, originally from the shores of Lake Erie, come back to Michigan. The group plays standout three-part harmonies and rotating lead vocals with a rootsy, bluesy back-to-basics foundation. They feature bass, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica and sing about small town life, love, tilt-a-whirls and teenage runaways.

STOP THE INCINERATOR RALLY- TOMORROW @ Spirit of Detroit 4-6pm
Something stinks and it’s not just the trash!
The lease on the Detroit Incinerator is up for renewal on June 1, 2008.
The Detroit City Council has adopted a new plan for trash disposal which includes recycling and shutting down the incinerator.
Our Mayor wants to continue using this MONSTER POLLUTING/ASTHMA MACHINE!
We need to act NOW! Call and write to the Detroit City Council and thank them for moving us forward. Call and write the Mayor, ask him to reconsider the health, welfare and finances of Detroit. -The Detroit incinerator is contributing to the rising dioxin levels, cancer, asthma, and low birth weights in our neighborhoods.
The asthma rates for the 9 zip codes around the Incinerator are 4 times higher then the Michigan average. Detroit was just designated the ninth most air polluted city in the country. The Detroit Incinerator is the 6th largest pollution source of over 180 facilities in Wayne County monitored by the state. Wayne County is currently in violation of EPA air quality health standards. The Detroit Incinerator annually emits an estimated 600,000 tons of global warming carbon dioxide. The Detroit Incinerator only burns about 70% of the trash put into it and the resulting highly toxic ash (about 30%) goes to a landfill.
Our waste is one of the biggest resources for the future. What kind of products could Detroiters produce with the endless supply of this material? Recycling creates 10 times more jobs than incineration. It promotes environmental consciousness and responsibility. Detroit is the only city of the 30 largest cities in the United States that does not provide curbside recycling.
By continuing to burn these easily recycle-able items we will never make a full switch to recycling. We are losing the revenue from recycled raw materials. Again, Detroit will be left behind on one of the biggest movements toward a greener economy.-
Detroit Taxpayers have overpaid for trash disposal by an average of about $50 million per year over the last 20 years. In the fiscal year 2007-2008 Detroit residents are paying over $170/ton for trash disposal – about 5 to 7 times more then the suburbs pay.
If the Incinerator continues to be used the disposal costs are estimated to be 2 to 3 times higher then what the suburbs will pay. About half of the trash burned in the Detroit Incinerator is from suburban cities, about 50% of the toxic emissions such as lead, mercury and cancer causing dioxins are from suburban trash.

Real Detroit Weekly is a returning third year sponsor of Movement, and will feature the return of the Underground Stage, known now as the Real Detroit Stage, sponsored by Real Detroit Weekly."
Real Detroit Weekly is a strong supporter of Detroit's Movement event, and is committed to sponsoring a successful festival that reaches an amazing fan base," stated Jason Huvaere, festival director.
"We are thrilled to have Real Detroit on board, once again, as an event sponsor."This year's diverse and eclectic roster showcases established electronic acts and vanguard artists who exemplify the event's global fan appeal, confirming the Detroit festival as a destination for the international techno circuit."As an original sponsor for Movement/DEMF, we have witnessed the growth of the festival from a relatively local event to an international celebration of electronic music in downtown Detroit," said John Badanjek, Publisher, Real Detroit Weekly.
"Every year the festival continues to impress us with their unyielding pursuit to improve the overall festival experience through better sound, staging, lighting, and of course talent.
Real Detroit Weekly is honored to present this year's lineup of world-class, homegrown artists to an international audience at the Festival. The fact that the Real Detroit Stage will be moving underground only compliments the stellar lineup. We anticipate the Real Detroit Stage will be banging from the first beats until they shut it down."Real Detroit Weekly – a weekly alternative entertainment-driven magazine – is Detroit's most entertaining source for music, nightlife, movies, fashion, dining and all other things under the pop culture umbrella. Mixing a combination of the city's elements with the suburbs' charm, the editorial attention is a secret formula that features local and national acts as well as pertinent information for Detroit's most loyal and growing audience.
Since 1998 Paxahau has promoted electronic music and has grown to include a web archive, booking agency, record label and an event production company which produces an average of 20 events a year. With a network of alliances and resources that span the globe, Paxahau has emerged as a premier promotions group within the electronic music industry.

Youthville Walk - Fundraiser for Theater Time @ Music Hall -
MUSIC HALL’S THEATER TIME FOR ASPIRING THESPIANS 1 K WALK
Music Hall’s youth educational program, Theater Time, was currently underway with the production of The Wiz, however, due to extreme financial hardship needs to raise $10,000 in order to produce this show which the kids have worked so hard to bring to the stage.
The parents of the Theater Time kids got together and decided to do a 1 kilometer walk around YouthVille next Saturday, May 24th , from 1 to 4 PM, to help raise funds to keep this important Detroit youth education program from closing the curtain.
The children will also use this time for a letter-writing campaign for funding to keep Theater Time up and running. There will be a $25 registration fee for all participants. In addition to contributing to an outreach youth education program, all those who register will receive name recognition in all of Music Hall’s 2008-2009 season programs.
We realize that this is extremely short notice, but expected funding hasn’t materialized so we must try on our own to help keep the current production of “The Wiz” on schedule.
Theater Time is one of Music Hall's charter programs. It began as a two-week summer program that evolved into a year - round initiative fully staffed with two drama instructors, a music director, a vocal instructor and a choreographer. Each session concludes with a final production on Music Hall's main stage. This fruitful evolution that took place within the Theater Time infrastructure has lead to a 90% retention rate with the participating Detroit youth.
YouthVille is located at:

Experimental. Thought provoking. Edgy. Loungy.
Get to the DIA Thursday, May 22nd, for the new late-night experience—the Marble Lounge.
From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., boxers from Detroit’s famed Kronk gym duke it out and Mexican masked wrestlers, Revolucha, hit the mat in a ring taking center stage in Prentis Court. Ann Arbor’s The Bang! provides the backdrop with a dance party adventure mixing everything from rock’n’roll to ‘60s soul, from BritPop to HipHop.
This is a first for the museum, and the night’s entertainment is in conjunction with the special exhibitions Life’s Pleasures: The Ashcan Artists’ Brush with Leisure, 1895–1925 and Give it a Rest: People at Play in American Prints and Drawings, 1890–1945 (the latter will be open for viewing), each of which features classic images of the ring.

"Paul Hitz's 10 Second Review"
they brought it from the UK, high paced dramatic lyrics rhythms and keyboards surrounded by a strong bass a telecaster and pounding drums.
got their name from practicing next to an airport and the air tower controllers signals would come through their amps
it was their first time to Detroit and they were given a warm WHOOHOO! from the crowd and they were looking forward to coming back again
