TANK ~ Wednesday, June 17th

Exciting things are happening in the local art community. TANK, a practical art school located at Richard Gage design studio is offering instruction, training, equipment and studio space to new and established artists. TANK provides a non-traditional learning environment to explore deeper aspects of your work and creativity. Drawing from the experience and skills of established artists and craftspersons, participants can learn new techniques, hone their skills and grow their body of work.

James Lutomski, and Assistant Professor of Art at Marygrove College in Detroit, is currently exhibiting new work at TANK’s gallery. This mixed media exhibition was well received at the opening last Friday and he will be holding a lecture/presentation on Wednesday, June 17th at 7pm.

From the artist:

“The class/lecture will showcase the work and travel that I did in Korea in August of 2008. I spent 5 days, on invitation from the Gangjin Celadon Korean Association, exhibiting, demonstrating and studying Korean pottery methods at the Gangjin Celadon Festival in collaboration with Korean clay artists. I also was invited to tour Korea and meet with university professors, Intangible Cultural Treasures and other clay artists. My travels throughout Korea also included visits to many museums, Buddhist temples and other important cultural sites. I will discuss and hopefully demonstrate working methods, cultural aspects and the general state of the Korean art community and their reverence for the hand made object.”

The class will be held at TANK, 425 W. Nine Mile Rd, Hazel Park, MI, for a suggested donation of just $5. This is the first of many programs by artists for artists, which is at the very core of TANK. You can also call the studio at (248) 547-1114 to see James Lutomski’s current exhibit by appointment.
