A small, yet powerful group of artists including the beautiful yet unsettling work of Cristin Richard, whose pig gut medium has pushed the narrative within fashion to a breaking point. Tracee Mae Miller, the chanteuse from local Indie-Alt band, Blanche, paints in a surreal mix of Currier & Ives meets Flannery O’Connor, Miller’s thick impasto and judicious use of color, make her work indelible and enduring.
Laura Barnhard and Audrey Pongracz, both create dreamy worlds populated by sometimes strange, but always beautiful women. Gwen Joy’s expressive primitive yet femme drenched paintings and her hybrid toy art are well known in Detroit art circles, while young illustrators like Allison Vince, Nicole Jarecz & Molly Jacques explore fashion and fantasy simultaneously.
Expressionist painter Lisa Goedert’s whimsical and colorful works are a nice mix of minimalism and color. Former StunGun leader, Joell Krista, whose album and DVD graphic art has graced major releases as well as local events, creates mixed media Pop pieces of exceptional beauty. Photographer/painter, Michell Danel and the ever-unpredictable Jacx, the former Detroiter, who’s bizarre glass sculptures and 3-D works are known from Detroit to Tokyo.
Painter Sunny Maniaci rounds out the group.DJ Jenny LaFemme will spin House/Chill and then will host the official after party at The Corner Bar in The Townsend Hotel at 10PM.
The exhibit will remain up for 2 weeks.
Pink Pump will also having a pre-“Day On The Town” sale.
