RiffTrax LIVE Simulcast Event--Lots of MI Theaters!

This one's for the nerds. I love you, nerds! --DC in Detroit

Mystery Science Theater 3000, dog rest its soul, has been off the air for a number of years now. The two main host types -- Mike and Joel -- have each gone on to other projects. (And now is not the time or place for a Kirk vs. Picard debate.) Mike now heads up the group RiffTrax, which produces audio-only tracks for much newer movies, the type MST3K could never have afforded. You buy/download the audio track and then rent the movie yourself and sync up the sound -- what you get is all the snark with none of the overhead. It's genius!

For added craziness, Mike and the sometimes-revolving crew (see, for example: guest riffer Joel McHale on "Red Dawn") occasionally hit the road for live shows. I haven't been able to make it to one yet (oh but I will, by gum), but this month, they're making it that much easier for us.

On August 20, our all-time favorite riffers, Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot Mk II), are going to do a LIVE simulcast in theaters around the country. We'll be treated to a brand new short (can anything beat Mr B Natural?) before our feature, a color version of "Plan 9 From Outer Space." Shooting fish in a barrel here folks.

The list of theaters is here, and it's pretty robust -- wherever you are, you're going to find a theater nearby. Including:
Quality 16 - Ann Arbor
Canton Cinema - Canton
AMC Livonia 20 - Livonia
AMC Forum 30 - Sterling Heights

Showtime is 8pm and tickets are available online for $12.50 (plus $1 service charge -- ONE DOLLAR, do you hear that, TicketBastard??). Bonuses will also be doled out, digitally, so make sure you stay to the end. (You buncha credits-watchers you.)

According to the guys at RiffTrax, tickets ARE selling out. I've already got mine, so go get yours. And don't forget your poopy suit!
