Do not miss this show!
Carolyn Striho winner of three 2010 Detroit Music Awards including Best Pop/Rock Album for her CD, Honesty, and in his first area performance in over a year, Detroit music legend, Stewart Francke and the buzz worthy Ken Stanley with Ken’s Loud Band, round out a bill of incredible songwriters, Friday, June 18th at The Magic Bag in Ferndale. Doors 8PM.
Admission is $8

Carolyn Striho, a Detroit musician/writer who cut her teeth as a teenage front woman with legendary Bookie’s era bands, The Cubes and Rough Cut, and then as the leader of the Post Was (Not Was) super group, Detroit Energy Asylum, is still one of this city’s most riveting and kinetic performers. Wielding either guitar, piano or her punk sharpened voice; Carolyn Striho commands the stage like a combination of a lioness and Karen-O, exuding danger and sensuality unmatched in the current Detroit Rock scene.

Striho’s follow-up, to this year’s Detroit Music Award-winning Honesty, is going to be a deeper, darker and headier in tone and will feature some well known, even legendary performers including Stooges drummer and old friend, Scott “Rock Action” Asheton.

Carolyn’s current band include, Guitarist. Scott Dailey, Violinist, Kurt Zimmerman and Percussionist, Ron Wolf.

One of the most beloved singer/songwriters of the last 20 years, Stewart Francke has rolled up an amazing list of awards and critical acclaim as a Blue-eyed Soul legend, writer, father and humanitarian. The Magic Bag show will be Stewart’s first major local show in over a year, and as usual, his band will be a slick aggregation of well-known sidemen (no surprise!) including, The Pastoria Brothers and Jimmy Bones. Francke’s fans include, Bruce Springsteen and Mitch Ryder, whom he has recorded and performed with.
A new book about his experiences with leukemia and a bone marrow transplant, What Don’t Kill Me…Just Makes Me Strong, is now looking for a publisher, has occupied his creative mind of late, but has still found time to record some new tracks at Detroit’s Harmonie Park Studios, which will no doubt see their stage debut on the 18th.

Rounding out the bill is a curious story indeed, Ken’s Loud Band, from Wyandotte, MI, is the vehicle for enigmatic and until recently, a reclusive songwriter, Ken Stanley, who with his Loud Band, have been continually rehearsing and recording HUNDREDS of incredible, Avant Pop/Rock songs which until earlier this year, had gone unnoticed for over 15 years, has begun to release this material starting with the recent well-received self release, “Good For The Bones.
