We were fortunate to have Mary Fortuna agree to be the juror for the annual Blooms, Bugs, Beasts exhibition. Please join us for the opening reception for the exhibition on Friday, May 21st from 6-9 pm. Please note the complementary programming (listed below) which will be featured during the run of the show.

Lounge: THE ART OF SAM KARRES
Scarab member artist will be having a solo exhibition of his work, running concurrently with the Blooms, Bugs, Beasts exhibition. Sam is a long-time member of the Scarab Club, known for his vibrant paintings of people and places around metro Detroit. For more information, visit Sam Karres on facebook.

COCKTAIL PARTY--AND DR. SKETCHY IS BACK!



Join us for the monthly third-Thursday cocktails and conversation in the lounge gallery. We're also happy to be hosting Dr. Sketchy, who will be back (in the garden, weather permitting) with some Flower Power-themed surprises, as well as contests, prize giveaways, psychedelic music, groovy goodies, and who knows what else--and all for a mere 5! Modeling for the evening will be two new gals from the Detroit Dizzy Dames burlesque troups, Vodou Vixen and Polly Glamourous.

FAMILY ART DAY
A day of Art with Blooms, Bugs, Beasts juror, Mary Fortuna
Free and open to the public
Join us for a fun and creative day for families, led by local artist, Mary Fortuna. Participants for this drop-in event will leave the gallery with a Blooms, Bugs, Beasts-themed creation of their own making!
Mary Fortuna has been active in the Detroit art community for twenty-plus years. She graduated from Wayne State University with a BFA in 1992. She has exhibited her work extensively all over Michigan; in Berlin, Germany; Bregenze, Austria; Beijing, China; and elsewhere in the United States. She founded, edited and published Ground Up, a magazine devoted to art in Detroit. She is a member of artist collectives The Slippery Weasel Society and Changing Cities. She has worked as a gallery director; picture framer; group home program coordinator; cook on a dive boat and at a long series of summer camps and greasy spoons; and as a part-time reindeer. She is currently employed as the Exhibition Director at Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester, Michigan.

From Wednesday, May 19th-Sunday, June 28th the Scarab Club will be hosting the annual Blooms, Bugs Beasts exhibition. It is an all-media juried exhibition with a theme of flowers, insects animals, landscapes and seascapes. Join us for an informal gallery talk with juror, Mary Fortuna and artists whose work was selected for the exhibition.
