...So I didn't really get anything new in this week to report on, therefore I decided to open the old -jr Music Revue e-mail account and to a copy/paste job on all the crap promoters send me. So here's some veiled persuasions to go buy stuff and find out about bands you've never heard or or are really really under the underground radar. Well, here's to phoning it in this week!!!

I wanted to check in to see if you got a chance to download and hear the Friday Night Lights Soundtrack Vol. 2 that we sent a few weeks back. It is now available wherever music is sold. The record showcases an awesome roster of some of the biggest break out bands from the past year including Heartless Bastards, Band of Skulls, White Rabbits and Avett Brothers. Season 4 premiered 2 weeks ago, and if the FNL Soundtrack Vol. 2 is any indication, this new season is bound to bring us more great music.

Little Tybee is a small but enchanting Barrier island off of the coast of Savannah, GA, whose tidal beaches are said to delicately blanket a scuttled atomic bomb that has been missing for over 60 years. Little Tybee is also a band from Atlanta, GA that was formed in the winter of 2009 By Brock Scott, Josh Martin and Ryan Gregory. Starting off in their home town of Savannah on June 4th, Little Tybee will make their way North, hitting up Athens, Atlanta, Asheville, Brooklyn and Philadelphia before they return home on June 15th. Listen to Little Tybee's "Nero" song on SoundCloud

The most recent of our mail out’s which you should have received is the new Ice Black Birds release, As Birds We’d Be Fine. The Brighton four piece’s new single differs slightly to their debut, whilst staying true to their edgy blues sound the band have added some more commercial appeal in the way of catchy riffs and an epic chorus. The B Side Doors has quite a psychedelic feel to it with crazy guitars and falsetto vocals escalating during the track to a quite a climax. Since the release of their first single they have received both regional and national airplay notably from Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 music whilst Radio 1’s Huw Stevens made them tip of the week! Having previously supported the likes of Golden Silvers and We Have Band touring is really important for the band and now managed by Insanity they have over 20 tour dates on the way and festival dates at The Secret Garden Party, Farm Festival and more recently The Great Escape.

With their latest album, "If I Don't Come Home, You'll Know I'm Gone", released last year on Blackbox Recordings in Canada, The Wooden Sky has completed a full "Bedrooms and Backstreets" tour across Canada in locations varying from rooftops & bedrooms to sunflower fields, canoes, and gondolas not to mention a full tour cross-Canada with Elliot Brood.
Well on its way to conquering Canada, it's time for the band to build alliances with its neighbors south of the border. Kicking things off on June 10th in Syracuse, the band will make its way all across the Northeast, hitting Brooklyn for Hillstock Festival (with Peasant and SAADI!), Boston, Philadelphia (with Little Tybee!), New Brunswick, and New Haven before heading Westward to Lansing, Cleveland, Bloomington, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and ending on June 26th in Fargo.

I wanted to give you an update on Paul Burch. The third single from his Record Club was sent out this week. Here’s a link to download the two songs, “One Tear at a Time," fitting considering the recent flooding in Nashville, and "Nadine," a Chuck Berry cover.
Paul Burch Record Club May.zip
The Record Club was an idea Paul had to get music to his fans every month. Fans who buy into the record club get an A and B side single from Paul at the beginning of each month, plus little extras throughout the year. Fans can either opt for downloads only, or can add a CD and a personalized thank you note from the man himself. At the end of the year all the singles will be complied into a physical release. Paul’s been getting a lot of good press lately for his most recent album, Still Your Man, which was released last August. It got great write-ups in magazines like Uncut and American Songwriter and was featured on a few Best Of lists at the end of last year. He’s a great country/Americana artist who doesn’t simply fall into the labels attached to him.

If you would like something revued by the legendary -jr, feel free to mail hard-copies to 11859 Sycamore, Plymouth, Mi. 48170....and I am partial to vinyl.
