PHOTOS: The Hastings Street Blues Band @ Donovah's Pub

"Donovah's Pub has music, Free-quently."

That's a direct quote from the owner. As it was happening that night. I went down at the request of Derek and the Darlings to take some pictures. Two hours before the show, they cancelled. I was already they watch Hastings Street setup. I was quite perturbed. I did get a nice welcome from all the staff, cook, waitress, barmaid and owner. Things started to look up. They got me a PBR and I was set to hear some music.
The Hastings Street Blues Band were setting and warming up. It really started to look up, because they sounded good, tuning and sound checking. But that's the bait. Once they start playing, you're hooked. If you like blues of most types, you'll hear at their shows. They play it in their style and feel, making it their own, but you'll recognize it. If you're out and about and see Hastings Street, you owe it to yourself to stop in. Or better yet, make plans to see them. You won't by disappointed.
Derek and the Darlings missed a good opportunity. The bar was packed all night, people standing there because all the tables and stools were full. The crowd was appreciative of "Hastings Street" They gain some cred when they decided to play second set, much to the delight to the crowd there that night. It's was just as blazing as the first.
On to the pics

Nice view of the pub. You need to stop and have a drink or two. The downturned economy has hurt everyone, especially the little businessman. Donovah's pub had a double whammy, the economy and construction that cut off most of his customers. Now that things are moving ever so slightly up, maybe we can keep most of that money locally.
I'd think about making it my local watering hole if I didn't live out so far. I will stop by everytime I come to the city for something. Like June 5 & 6, I'll by down for the Red Bull Air Races.
