Will their efforts prove to be a success??

Since the 1960's, the 4th Street Fair has provided local artists and
musicians a platform to express their talents and let their voices be heard.

Many Detroiters have enjoyed this DIY street fair through the years as an
alternative to larger, corporate-sponsored events such as tastefest.

Some have even commented that the Dally in the Alley has lost some of its
block-party appeal as it has gained popularity throughout the years.

A true Detroit original, it seems as though the 4th Street Fair is one of
the last major local events to embody the true DO-IT-YOURSELF spirit that
our city prides itself on.

Unfortunately, over the last five or so years.the 4th Street Fair has ran
into many problems with MDOT, residents who don't want to see the fair
happen and most of all: MONEY.

Certain members of the 4th Street high council who are no longer involved
somehow squandered the funds needed to make the fair happen over the last
few years.

Last ditch efforts by one of the fair's most loyal organizers and former 4th
Street resident, Dianna Kethman, have proved fruitless in the last couple
years due simply to the fact that there is NOT ENOUGH MONEY to make the Fair
go down like it has in years past.

The goal is, in 2010, to breathe new life

into this beloved Detroit tradition.

Joining forces with local musicians, Dianna Kethman has organized a campaign
to raise funds so this year's fair can occur in JULY of 2010.

A facebook page has united almost 2,000 detroiters in an attempt to raise
money.

The public has expressed their support through donations, but the organizers
of the fair still have a LONG way to go.

A benefit concert at the lager house will be held on FRI JUNE 18th, 2010.

The goal is to collectively raise 5,000 dollars before JULY 1st.

Then, and only then, will it be decided whether or not the 4th Street Fair
will even happen this year.
