OPENING TONIGHT: "Touch" at Work Detroit

Curated by Gallery Director Stephen Schudlich, “Touch” continues the 2010-2011 exhibition season at Work Detroit in the University of Michigan Detroit Center. All are welcome to the exhibition’s opening reception held from 6:00 – 9:00 PM, Friday, December 3.

The DO NOT TOUCH rule is an assumed reality in the art and art user exchange. In the majority of cases, both creator and presenter frown upon the act of touching creative work. However some work not only allows touch but, invites it and even NEEDS it for effective connection. Work Detroit removes the vitrines, takes the signs down, moves the ropes, and holds the door open for a more visceral and tactile exchange with creative process.

Established in 2007 and located in the heart of Detroit’s cultural community, Work Detroit is a unique space for the sharing of creative process and dialogue and an integral component of the University of Michigan School of Art & Design. Work Detroit's mission is to explore and define lines of creative connection between the University of Michigan, Detroit, and beyond. Work Detroit presents the work of student, faculty, alumni, as well as local, national, and internationally prominent thinkers and makers.

“Touch” will run until Friday, December 24. After the opening, the exhibition may be accessed 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. Work Detroit is located at the UM Detroit Center at Orchestra Place, 3663 Woodward Avenue, Suite 150 in Midtown Detroit. Parking is available for exhibition guests in the structure behind Orchestra Place. For more information, contact PH: 313-593-0940 or see our website.
