Hilberry Theatre Offering Tix for DSO Patrons

In a struggling economy and uncertain times, it's distressing for all of us to see one of Metro Detroit's cultural gems suffer. Therefore, in appreciation of and continued support for arts and culture in Detroit, the Hilberry Theatre would like to offer Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) patrons two free tickets to any show for the rest of this season.

The DSO approved the Hilberry's request to reach out to the symphony's subscribers, and according to the Hilberry's Group Sales Coordinator, Becky Pierce, "It's imperative to keep the DSO's patrons involved with and active in Detroit's fine arts scene." The Hilberry Theatre serves as an excellent venue to keep such dedicated arts patrons thus engaged; since 1963, more than two million guests have passed through its doors, inspired by the passion and portrayal of the human condition on its stage that has made them laugh, cry, think, applaud and cheer.

In order to share that experience with DSO subscribers, the Hilberry Company is currently mailing out letters and gift vouchers. Patrons may reserve their free tickets by presenting the Hilberry box office with either a mailed voucher or by presenting their DSO tickets. The Hilberry Theatre is located at 4743 Cass Avenue on the corner of Hancock.

The remaining shows for this season are Timothy Mooney's adaptation of Moliere's The Misanthrope, playing through March 5, and John Irving's two-part epic The Cider House Rules, Parts 1 & 2, adapted for the stage by Peter Parnell and playing through May 14. For more information on shows and dates please go online to www.Hilberry.com.

The Hilberry Theatre is unique in that it is the nation's only graduate theatre staffed by young up-and-coming professionals and running on a rotating repertory schedule. About forty graduate students are selected in national competition to receive fellowships to work in this theatre and study for advanced degrees. The company performs an annual season of six plays, including high school matinees for nearly 10,000 students. Through the years, four Hilberry productions have been selected to appear at the American College Theatre Festival.

The box office is open Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with extended hours to 8:00 p.m. on performance evenings (Thursday-Saturday). For more information, please call 313-577-2972 or visit the Wayne State University Box Office at 4743 Cass Ave. on the corner of Cass Ave. and Hancock, Detroit, MI 48202.  Performance information may also be obtained by visiting the Theatre's website at www.hilberry.com.
