Wild At Heart

I don’t really have that much to say this week, esp since I did three blogs last week. I also think after watching video after video of the Japanese tsunami I might be in a bit of disbelief. I will be posting a blog midweek for a movie review of the documentary “Budrus” which will open this weekend at the Main Art Theatre. So this week, here is a few upcoming shows of note and we’ll leave it at that.

The Hitchcock show should be the must see concert of the week. At this show, free with museum admission, you will see legendary record producer and author Joe Boyd collaborates with musical icon Robyn Hitchcock reflecting on Boyd’s memories and showcase music from rock music’s golden days. Joe Boyd will read from his book “White Bicycles”, which chronicles the days when he was producing music by Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, and Fairport Convention. Robyn Hitchcock will then perform songs by these artists. Boyd travelled to Britain in 1964 to open a UK branch of Elektra records and started working with various folk artists such as the Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention and Richard Thompson. He later co-founded London's UFO Club and worked with UFO regulars Pink Floyd and Soft Machine. He returned to the states in the 70’s where he worked on a Jimi Hendrix documentary and produced records by Maria Muldaur, REM, Billy Bragg and 10,000 Maniacs. Robyn Hitchcock started his musical career with the punk/new wave outfit the Soft Boys (“I Wanna Destroy You”) before forming the Egyptians in the 80’s (“Balloon Man”, “Madonna Of The Wasps” and most recently the Venus 3. This is one show I wish I was back in Detroit to see. Here is Hitchcock doing an Incredible String Band cover to get you hyped up.
