XYLOS and Parlotones at the Magic Stick, March 11. Also Obits at The Lager House.

Another contributor from this blog, RebbeccaMich, was also there for this show, taking great pictures. This post will sort of be like her's, without all the quality photos, or objective research. I should probably make the effort to meet the other people who write here.

EDITOR NOTE: MOTORCITYBLOG HAS OVER 30 CONTRIBUTORS MANY WHO HAVE NOT MET EACH OTHER....EVEN THE EDITORS HAVENT MET EVERYONE THAT WRITES, SHOOTS PHOTOS, STREET TEAMS, DJs, GRAPHIC DESIGN, VIDEO INTERVIEWS, MUSIC/VIDEO EDITING, POSTS EVENTS OR WORKS BEHIND THE SCENES TO SCORE FREE TICKETS / VINYL/ SWAG

Before XYLOS even started, I was impressed that they have their name was written out in a classic Brite Lite. How awesome is that? When the band came out and started, I was confused as to why they would have a drum machine and a live drummer. I thought bands employed a drum machine when they got sick of replacing their drummer, or when they got tired of waiting around for their drummer to show up for rehearsal. Even though the vocals seemed to be strained at times, I enjoyed their electro-pop love songs.

For all through XYLOS's set, the Magic Stick seemed to have about 50 people scattered throughout the room. Once The Parlotones took the stage, the whole crowd tightly coalesced right up front. There must have been people hiding in dark corners of the place, because it suddenly seemed like the crowd doubled, and now there were 100 people jockeying to be right at the front of the stage. Seeing the band in matching black outfits with red ties made me realize why a group of women were wearing matching outfits with similar color themes. I would have to describe their sound as The Scorpions meet Queens of the Stoned Age. That's probably the worst way someone has ever summarized a band with a 13 year career.

I quickly bolted to the Lager House and only saw the last two songs of Jaill (sic). L.O. (name withheld to protect the semi-innocent) had convinced me to come out to see Obits. They're sort of an indie super group, with some of the members previously comprising Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Edsel, and Shortstack. Yeah, I don't know who any of those bands are either.
Thanks to L.O. for letting me use her picture of the night's Alpha Drunk.
