Milwaukee Summer Series - Part 1

Its summertime in Milwaukee and that means one thing, church festivals. Tonight it was St. Helen’s Polka Festival. A good church festival requires decent music (cover bands), good beer, and games of chance offering booze (the good stuff) and sausage. I like St. Helen’s because it has all of these and it is close to my house. The beer of choice is Tyskie, an easy drinking Polish beer. Tonight the music was provided by Carol and the Keynotes, a three piece polka band. In addition to the usual polka standards, the band rose above other polka bands with their classic country set. Featuring a Johnny Cash medley, a good version of “There He Goes” and then completely out of nowhere, Jim Ed Brown’s masterpiece “Pop-A-Top”. Overall a very good night, even though I didn’t win any booze or meat products. There’s always next weekend.
