NEXT WEEK: Amy LeVere returns to motorcity to play Pike Room Crofoot 8/5

Amy Lavere will play The Pike Room at The Crofoot on August 5th.

The Memphis soul chanteuse and upright bass master is touring in support of her forthcoming album, Stranger Me (out July 19th), produced by Craig Silvey (The Arcade Fire – The Suburbs), which is a follow up to 2007’s Jim Dickinson-produced Anchors & Anvils.

Known for her acting roles in “Walk The Line,” “Black Snake Moan,” and “Hustle and Flow,” Lavere’s charming and alluring vocals find a fine balance between brooding country ballads and funky, jazz-infused Americana.

Recently nominated for the Americana Music Awards’s “Best New Artist,” Lavere just finished taping NPR’s Mountain Stage, which aired June 17th. You can listen to that performance here:http://www.npr.org/2011/06/22/137326899/amy-lavere-on-mountain-stage

Amy LaVere was born in Louisiana and moved around as a GM brat ("Dad moved around to open factories"), and the family eventually settled near Detroit, at least everyone but her father, who continued to travel for work. The family structure eventually gave way. She and her sister rebelled, and one of the ways Amy did so was by joining a band at age 14. Rebellion is still a potent theme for her, and she continues to defy and test love's constraints in many of her songs.
