EDSEL & ELEANOR FORD HOUSE AND DETROIT JAZZ FESTIVAL ANNOUNCE NEW PARTNERSHIP Johnny Trudell Orchestra Kicks Off Fourth Fridays Concert Series presented by Huntington National Bank Music lovers asked for more sweet sounds at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House (Ford House) and now they'll get it. The historic estate and the Detroit Jazz Festival have announced a new partnership to present a summer concert series Jazz at Ford House: A Prelude to the Detroit Jazz Festival. The inaugural concert, featuring the Johnny Trudell Orchestra, is set for Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. Grounds open for picnicking at 6 p.m. The Cotswold Cafe will be closed for dinner on August 26th. The majestic estate, situated along the shoreline of Lake St. Clair, has become a destination for enjoying music in a relaxed, non-traditional setting, where the atmosphere becomes as important as the music in creating an unforgettable experience. Following the overwhelmingly successful Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Ford House concerts that began in July 2010, attendees requested that additional musical offerings be presented. "When we surveyed visitors, they resoundingly said they wanted more music at Ford House," said Kathleen Mullins, Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, president. "There really isn't anything like sitting along the shore line, watching the boats go by and listening to world class music. We're thrilled to be able to partner with another one of our region's premier cultural institutions and offer yet another way to experience the estate." For the Detroit Jazz Festival, the concert series will serve as a prelude to the immensely popular Labor Day weekend celebration, now in its 32nd year. "We are thrilled to partner with the Ford House in bringing another world-class jazz event to the area," said Thomas Robinson, Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation, president. "This is another example of the Detroit Jazz Festival's year-round commitment to bring top-notch cultural events to the region and continue the legacy of jazz in the Detroit area." The big band sounds of the Johnny Trudell Orchestra will take the audience back to the 1930s and 40s when Edsel and Eleanor hosted grand parties at their home where such performers as Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Frank Sinatra often played. Plans call for Jazz at Ford House to expand in summer of 2012 with the series being held the fourth Fridays in June, July and August. Jazz at Ford House: A Prelude to the Detroit Jazz Festival is supported by Huntington National Bank, Dirty Dog Jazz Café and Beaumont Hospital. Tickets $25 - preferred seating Includes reserved seating, parking and shuttle service to concert area $15 - general admission, in advance $20 general admission, at the gate $12 - general admission in advance for Edsel & Eleanor Ford House Members and Detroit Jazz Festival Rhythm Section Members Tickets can be purchased at http://jazzfordhouse.eventbrite.com.
