Concert Preview: Sims, Lazerbeak, Cecil Otter and more Pike Room Oct. 9
This Sunday at the Pike Room in Pontiac the Doomtree Crew of Sims, Lazerbeak and Cecil Otter will be taking over the stage and presenting their collision of indie beats and hip hop. As the headliner, Sims has a raw and passionate take on hip hop that is a biting commentary on everyday life on harsh streets. His latest "Wildlife" is a shared ep with Lazerbeak, providing the music, each track builds upon each to the frenzied "Here I Stand." Lazerbeak offers both sublime instrumentals and indie pop that can be funky, breezy and intense when the mood shifts. Cecil Otter performed recently here with Slug and the Atmosphere tour. From what I heard about the show, Cecil was the dark horse of the set, surprising the uninitiated with the flow of his rapping and distinct beats.
Warming up the show are a slew of local rappers, including Mobil, SelfSays, The Anonymous, Benjamin Miles and Eddie Logix, all artists that have played around enough to stand their own ground. The show starts at 8pm, more details can be found at the Crofoot website.
