Show Review: Holy Ghost! w/ Jessica 6 at The Magic Stick

Last Thursday night, the venerable Magic Stick was transformed into an NYC disco party thanks to the Brooklyn natives Holy Ghost! and their friends Jessica 6 and DJ Eli Escobar.

Escobar got the night started on the good foot with some floor filler jams before the incomparable Nomi and her band (formerly of Hercules and Love Affair) hit stage. J6 played an uptempo, sweat enducing set of disco burners mostly from their latest album, See The Light

including the highlight of the set, "Prioner of Love."

Following an extended jam on "U Motion," Escobar took back to the ones and twos for a short DJ set before headliners Holy Ghost! hit stage. An impressive array of synthesizers flanked the 6 man live band executing the bands material flawlessly. By this time, the floor really filled up with bodies moving to the music and tripping the light fantastic. While it was a fairly compact set of mostly newer material, the party continued as the audience was invited to stay and dance the night away to another set courtesy of Eli Escobar. While Holy Ghost! has previously toured nationally with Chromeo among others, the band has finally made a name for themselves as a solid headliner thanks to their energetic stage show. Definitely a must see next time around as well.
