Another fantastic long weekend in Detroit

Shame on you if you didnt get tickets to check out one of the two sold out showings of Louder Than Love at the DIA tonight because it is a great film...we have been supporting this project for a long time and had the pleasure meeting up with Tony when we both interviewed Lemmy from Motorhead at the Sound Board a few years ago...there will be a before and after party going on over at The Majestic Cafe TONIGHT!

The Majestic CafĂ© is pleased to announce that we will be hosting an opening reception for Detroit filmmaker Tony D’Annunzio’s LOUDER THAN LOVE – The Grande Ballroom Story on Thursday April 5, beginning at 5PM. Tony D’Annunzio will be on hand to meet and mingle with filmgoers and Grande fans prior to the two screenings of the film at the DIA Film Theatre at 7 and 9PM. Also attending will be legendary photographer Leni Sinclair (whose iconic photographs document the Grande story from beginning to end) along with Carl Lundgren, renowned Detroit artist, who created many of the posters for Grande shows which are now highly collectible. Both artists will display their artwork and have images for sale.

The reception begins at 5PM til 6:30, then breaks for the 7PM film screening and resumes at 9:30PM for afterglow till close at 2AM. Admission is free.

LOUDER THAN LOVE: The Grande Ballroom Story is Tony’s first independent film as a producer and director. The movie chronicles the Detroit music scene in the late 1960s, as told through the eyes of the legendary bands that played there. At the epicenter of this seminal music scene stood The Grande Ballroom, Detroit’s original rock and roll palace.

Pat Steir, painter

Pat Steir's veteran career has given us paintings that exquisitely balance the interplay between Eastern and Western visual representations of landscape. For decades, the art world has coveted her dripped and splashed waterfall imagery that reveals her interest in 19th century Romantic paintings, Abstract Expressionisim , and Chinese landscape. Steir was born in 1940 in Newark, New Jersey and received her BFA degree from Pratt Institute. She has continued to exhibit in museums and galleries around the world ever since her first exhibition at Terry Dintenfass Gallery in 1964.

THE REVIVAL TOUR will be performing at Magic Stick in Detroit on Saturday April 7th... This year marks the 5th Anniversary of the tour, which was birthed from the rich folk tradition of giving and openess and propelled by an innate need to tell a story in its naked acoustic state. The lineup for Detroit features folk troubadour Chuck Ragan, Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio, The Emergency Room), renowned singer/songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff, and Cory Branan in stripped down acoustic form backed by Jon Gaunt on the fiddle and Joe Ginsberg on upright bass.
