Set in southern Italy I Pagliacci is a delightful opera about a clown's romantic dilemma and his abundant creativity and loyalty to his craft. Like many artists with tumultuous lives the head clown  Canio uses his life for inspiration.  He seeks to turn his tragic life into comedy. A few men have designs on his attractive and vibrant wife Nedda. She sings about having immense desires and a longing to be free like a bird.

The Italian street scenes and the miming and skillful dancing of the minor characters give this piece a fun and vibrant flow. The dramatic conclusion awes the viewer. I Pagliacci is a lively opera with a skillful mix of passion, tension, and comedic flare. I Pagliacci will be performed at The Michigan Opera Theatre until May 20th.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is currently at the Planet Ant Theatre in Hamtramick, Michigan.
The northern English scenery and dialogue are winning elements that charm the viewer. The 80's clothing and soundtrack also aid in authenticating this genuine and unusual gem by Jim Cartwright.
An obvious highlight was the rich chill inducing singing by lead Inga R. Wilson. The tarty and hilarious dialogue by a few supporting characters and the skillful plot twists make this a suspenseful yet comedic piece rich in nostalgic gold.
