Davin Brainard

January, February, Spring Summer Christmas

August 24 – September 21, 2012

Closing Reception Friday, September 21, 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Part of the Downtown Rochester Gallery Stroll

Paint Creek Center for the Arts presents a solo show of works by Davin Brainard. Brainard has been active in the Detroit art and music communities for many years. He has exhibited his work in solo and group shows all over the world.

Brainard says of his work, "I draw and paint with a knife. Sometimes I use a saw. In 1996, after struggling to paint a perfect curve with a brush, I discovered that it was much easier for me to cut paper than to paint on it. So I put down the brush and picked up a knife and a spray can and became a stencil artist." Using spray paint on a foundation of house paint, he creates "simple and sweet canvases that capture the innocence, wonder and excitement of childhood." Davin paints clouds, chairs, ice cream cones, frogs, leaves, blades of grass, and other simple objects. His direct approach results in simple forms full of character and emotion. "And of course," he says, "it should be cute, too."

Please join us in welcoming Davin Brainard at a Closing Reception on Friday, September 21st, 6:00 – 9:00 pm.

This opening reception is part of the Downtown Rochester Fall Gallery Stroll.

Admission to the closing reception and gallery stroll are free and open to the public.

This exhibit is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs,

the National Endowment for the Arts and the Kresge Foundation.
