Orca Team a stylish Seattle band opened for Laetitia Sadier. I did not catch local psychedelic band Outrageous Cherry. Orca Team had a mod look, a upbeat and downright spritely stage presence, a slightly new wave kinda sound, and songs filled with melodic hooks that were repetitive and catchy. They inspired a trio of dancers who ranged from swing to free form in their styles. Definitely an energetic and pleasing set.
Laetitia Sadier who is with Drag Records is on tour to promote her new album Silencio. There were similarities to Stereolab her most famous past band in her recent musical effort. The biggest difference was the lack of keyboards. The music is a bit more simplified which adds emphasis to Sadier's vocals and songwriting which are outstanding. She sings in both french and english and her singing much like her songs is simple, incredibly balanced yet complex much like an piece of classical music. I particularly enjoyed her third song which was about the act of creation. And I dug the conga beat in a song about mathematics. I enjoyed both bands and suggest checking them out next time they come in town.
