Paper Diamond, an electronic artist based in Colorado, is more than just a great DJ/musician, he's one very cool guy. Here's my evidence: last year when he played the iLounge, that little club below Clutch Cargos, Paper Diamond (or Alex B.) sat down with me and told me about growing up, making music and his Elm&Oak label. Like his music he comes across as a mixture of chill in his demeanor and aggressive in his output. His set that night amazed the intimate crowd with a spectacular clash of lights and sound.
After the iLounge gig, I caught him again a few months later warming up for Big Gigantic at Royal Oak Music Theatre. With a smaller setup and a much larger crowd to contend with PD held his own.
In his tireless quest to spread his music around the globe, that cool guy is back again on his Night Vision tour and is headlining the Crofoot along with Eliot Lipp and Clicks and Whistles. I'm eager to see him once more as PD's set is always changing and evolving. I'm also curious to see his stage set-up as he makes sure his show is as much as visual feast and it is an audio assault. You can sample some of what you might hear by downloading his latest mixtape.
Also, check out his latest track "The Forty Thieves" - it's incredible!
