Show review/pictures: Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band with Rosco Bandana @ The Magic Bag Ferndale, MI 12/02/2012
Big things come in small packages, and this three piece band hailing from Brown County Indiana is no exception. One of the most exciting bands on the road today, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band brings a show to the stage that is explosive, engaging, and full of audience participation. Slinging out a style of country blues that encompasses influences from BB King to Charlie Patton to Jimi Hendrix, they command a presence on stage that rivals even the biggest bands in the biggest venues. Feet stomping, hands clapping, vocals howling, they engage their fans with a fervor from the stage, ensuring every last person in the crowd is involved in being part of the show, almost reminiscent of a tent show revival. Reverend Peyton's mastery of his multitude of guitars, including a cigar box guitar, showcases the signature sound of the band while his wife Breezy scratches and claws her way around her washboard, stalking the stage, backed by Cuz on drums who cranks out a pounding backdrop of time, at least when his kit isn't being kicked over by the Reverend. They brought their amazing show to The Magic Bag in Ferndale this past Sunday, along with the amazing opening act, Rosco Bandana, a young seven piece band that plays a style of Americana Folk music that fit perfectly in to the opening slot for the Big Damn Band. It was a party that never seemed to end, and it was hard to tell it was a Sunday night with the amount of energy abound in the crowd. Catch these bands while you can before they take a break for the holidays!
