Ends Sunday at Midnight EST

It has been far too long since we have cracked open the archives here at 1xRUN, so after all the madness from our first two shows at Inner State with Glenn Barr and Ron Zakrin we are excited for our first Archive Access in nearly 7 months! We have plundered the bins of our recent returns, exchanges and long lost prints as a part of this collector appreciation weekend.

INNER STATE Presents: SURVIVE Detroit Pop-Up Art Show
Traveling art show makes a one night only stop in Detroit's Eastern Market

On June 8th, Inner State Gallery will present SURVIVE for an one-night-only, pop-up art exhibition in Detroit's Eastern Market. The traveling exhibition comes to Detroit after a highly successful premiere in New Orleans last April. This event is free and open to the public.

SURVIVE is an art exhibition featuring a conceptually coherent and significant, original body of work by emerging artists of the L.A. based graffiti crews LTS KOG featuring artwork by  SINER, FISHE, DREYE, KYLE THOMAS, and NATHAN SMITH. The artists work from the same monochromatic palette mixing ink, acrylic, markers, brush, rollers, and spray paint to produce 33  3 x 4 ft. canvasses.

SURVIVE has consciously chosen Detroit to follow up the New Orleans' debut of their traveling exhibition to provoke a dialogue on the transformative power of art. These cities represent not only the everyday struggle to survive, but to be great again. We all struggle to survive at some point in our lives. This struggle can be a unifying force that forges a shared vision and identity. However, the struggle itself is incredibly temporary when compared to the lasting durability and enduring spirit of our cities.

"By inviting street culture purveyors and art audiences to the showcase of emerging artists at a formerly vacant structure and now transformed 'pop-up' gallery space, the concept, the process, and the art reinforce the purpose: SURVIVE", says the curator, James W Riley.

The abstract work of the LTS KOG crews on the street translates directly across surfaces, textures, and contexts onto the canvass. The fearless originality and brutal honesty of their works creates a dramatic composition that reflects an aggressive obsession with technique and medium. The distinctively raw aesthetic results in something chaotic, yet beautiful.

The opening reception is Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 7p.m. to 11p.m. The show runs for one night only, and is located in the Eastern Market at 2431 Orleans St. Detroit, MI 48207.

With over ten crew members traveling to Detroit along with the exhibition, guest will be able to meet the curator, participating artists, photographers and documentary makers. A series of public murals will be produced near the venue that reflects the aesthetics and message behind the art exhibition.
