NEXT MONTH: The Legend of Mothman and the Spookhaus Apokalypse! puppets @ DIA

Thanks to the Book Beat for the head's up and event description.

A Live Shadow Screen Spectacle of low comedy:
October 25th at 8:30 pm
Oct. 27th at 3:30 pm

Two new chiller shadow plays The Legend of Mothman, and Spookhaus Apokalypse! will be performed live as part of the Halloween program at the Detroit Institute of Arts in the lecture hall on October 25th at 8:30 pm and on Oct. 27th at 3:30 pm. The plays were written by Cary Loren and the puppetry created by Ann Arbor artist Tom Carey.

The characters in these apocryphal playlets will each be vocalized and narrated by Rob St. Mary, a former radio announcer and reporter at WDET, now working in Aspen for public radio. The band Monster Island including Jimbo Easter and Matthew Smith will create soothing background music, other-worldly sound effects and a sculptural installation made specially for this shadow screen spectacle.

Mothman and Spookhaus will take you deep inside the latest news on conspiracy theories, urban UFO legends, Detroit politics, cartoon culture and Halloween rituals. In both shadow plays you will meet zombies, cannibal witches, ghosts, goblins, Insane Clowns from outer-space, the Vernor’s gnome, Mothman, hot rodding Rat Finks, the Devil’s Robot, Martian UFOs, Hot Stuff the Little Devil, the ghost of Ed Wood Jr., Criswell, Dracula, Frankenstein, Snoopy, Charley Brown, Godzilla, Mothra and many other assorted monsters and creatures from the beyond.

It is viewable for all ages and admission is free with entrance to the DIA.
