The Detroit Design Festival presents Eastern Market After Dark, a self guided tour of the creative side. Eastern Market is often recognized as the food hub of Detroit, bustling with Saturday morning shoppers, slaughterhouses and specialty grocery stores. After dark a different hustle takes over the neighborhood, a creative movement hidden in lofts, studios and galleries living in the market.

The night tour will open the doors to studios, galleries, artists' residencies, hacker spaces, shops and letterpress studios. The evening will give guests a chance to explore the market often not experienced. Allowing for a sneak peak into a creative community that works late nights and early mornings to create on every level. The tour will stop at over fifteen locations in the market, opening their doors for workshops, shopping and viewing. Studio doors will open at 7p.m. and close at 11p.m. A free shuttle will be provided to take patrons between centralized locations in the Market. The event is Free and open to all ages.  View the entire list of participating business, Artists and Studios here ->> https://www.facebook.com/events/184701198328035/

Inner State Gallery is proud to showcase an entirely new body of work from three of Detroit's most progressive up and coming local artists with It's In The Water an exhibition featuring Malt, Tead & Ellen Rutt. Join us in Eastern Market to celebrate the talents of these artists on September 27th from 7-10pm. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
An exploration of vibrant color palettes and textural layers of paint and mixed media, each of these multifaceted artists brings a unique style to "It's In The Water", showing what makes them a creative force to be reckoned with in the City of Detroit.
Over the past decade, graffiti mainstays Malt and Tead have collaborated on everything from gallery exhibitions to public art installations throughout the country. Using hard lines and explosive color schemes, their work juxtaposes the deeply layered mixed media pieces of Ellen Rutt. Coming off of her sold-out exhibition at the Detroit Red Bull House of Art in the spring of 2013, Rutt continues to explore her mixed media collage work, blending digital and traditional techniques into compositions of organic forms and sharp geometric shapes. With over 50 new mixed media paintings and limited edition prints, this is an exhibition that is not to be missed.
"Each of these artists have made a strong impact on us with their work.  We feel that this explosion of color will cap off another great Detroit summer and provide a fitting transition into fall," gallery co-founder Jesse Cory said.

Welcoming artist reception will begin at 7pm and will end at 10pm.
