Free Vinyl Friday - GROOMS - Lager House Detroit - Saturday 10/12/13

Hit up motorcityblog@earthlink.net for your shot to win a fresh Western Vinyl from GROOMS who play a over at PJ's Lager House on 10/12 promoting the new album Infinity Caller.

Grooms hail from Brooklyn and are a part of the burgeoning East Coast guitar rock scene that has spawned all manner of noteworthy bands as of late (see Speedy Ortiz, Roomrunner, Two Inch Astronaut, Ovlov, Potty Mouth, etc.), playing regularly in the established DIY community that these bands call home.  While the subtle influence of Sonic Youth, Pavement, and Talk Talk can be heard in their music, Travis Johnson (who's day job is at Death By Audio building guitar pedals) has distilled the sound into a hook-laden album that offers up some of their most memorable songs to date.

With a focus on "finding new ways to sound pretty" and catchy melodies, Grooms remove themselves from the standard "sounds like the '90s" cliche handed out to so many bands.  Reliance on distortion pedals and "Drop D" tuning are at a minimum here.
