“For the Love of Reading, Volume Two” is a the second art exhibition at the Ferndale Public Library celebrating books and literature’s ability to inspire. Held in concurrence with “Ferndale Reads,” artwork will be on display from February 25 – April 5, 2014 in the library community meeting room and atrium. Art inspired by books, including illustrations, character or author portraits, re-imagined book covers and more will be included in the show. Submissions in any variety of medium are encouraged, including photography, painting, drawing, relief prints and sculpture. “Ferndale Reads” is anticipated to draw hundreds of visitors to the library. “For the Love of Reading” will have its own reception.

All the information needed to submit art for the exhibition can be found on the art page of the library's website: http://www.ferndale.lib.mi.us/index.php/art

Inquiries and submissions can be sent to FPLArts@ferndalepubliclibrary.org. Entries must be received no later than 11:59pm on Saturday, February 15, 2013. Artists will receive notification of their submission status (accepted or declined) by February 19.

"Ferndale Reads” is the library’s annual community reading event, reading Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg. “Ferndale Reads” demonstrates how reading, particularly as a group, elevates its value beyond a solitary recreation, allowing the community to come at the book together from various viewpoints.

The Committee does not charge a commission and will not be involved in the sale of any artwork beyond providing interested buyers with the artist's provided contact information. Artists who sell work from the exhibit are encouraged to make a modest donation to the library.

The Art and Exhibitions Committee is also accepting art loans for exhibit in the library. These loans can include three-dimensional art, as well.

The Ferndale Public Library Art and Exhibitions Committee’s mission is to promote and foster an appreciation of two and three-dimensional art for library patrons, through exhibits, lectures, and an expanded collection of art books.
