IN PERSON ON THE WEEKEND OF SAT/SUN JAN 12/13TH
World Premier and first leg in the exhibit tour of "Carnivora -The Dark Art Of The Automobile" which will coincide with the book release of the same name published by Barany Books/Scapegoat Publishing with an opening reception on Saturday, January 12th, 2008 at 7 PM, followed by a book signing by a number of the showcased artists on Sunday, January 13th, from 1 PM until 5 PM.More than 80 internationally renown post-
Pop artists contributed a piece or two for the book and exhibit (much, but not all of the works in the book will be on display) most notably, Robert Crumb, HR Giger, Robert Williams, Marshall Arisman, Stanley Mouse, Joe Coleman & Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO.
Detroit is well represented in both the book and exhibit with Niagara, Glenn Barr, Tom Thewes, Camilo Pardo, Chris Dean & Topher Crowder. An incredible array of some of the most well-known, Comic Expressionists, Post-Pop painters and Kustom Kulture renegades , all celebrating Detroit's gift to the human race.
Curated by NY Artist Super agent, Les Barany, Carnivora is a shadowy realm where flesh and machine coalesce into humanity’s greatest technical achievement — the Automobile.
Inispensable extensions of our nervous systems, cars are metallic monsters as dark and destructive as the men and women who drive them.Carnivora: The Dark Art of Automobiles takes you on a chilling joyride powered by the Automotive Age’s hottest artists.
Carnivora presents a world where propriety and rules fly out the window vent like a lit cigarette butt , or a glob of spittle. Great art generally comes from a dark place, an alternative reality , a place of danger and excitement, not safety and comfort. Many of Carnivora's contributing artists were weaned on Kustom Kulture and all of it's thrill-seeking and dangerous glory. Here you will bear witness to the dark communion of flesh and metal, power and speed, life and death.
Welcome to Carnivora , drive at your own risk.
The exhibit runs to February 22nd, 2008
