International environmental and community development activist Mohamad A. Chakaki is the guest speaker at the 5th annual ACCESS Environmental Leadership Celebration at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, April 9, at Bint Jebail Banquet Center in Dearborn.

Chakaki is a 2006 graduate of the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies who has been active in both the U.S. and the Gulf region. He has worked with the United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, the U.N.’s environmental program and the U.S. Peace Corps. He is a contributing writer on several blogs. He is based in Washington, D.C.

ACCESS is one of only a few Arab American organizations in the U.S. that are actively engaged in environmental issues. Proceeds from this annual event benefit the ACCESS Environmental Program.

Honorees during the event include Shadia Wood, a nationally recognized youth leader on environmental justice and climate change, and Bunyan Bryant, Ph.D., a prominent educator, social activist and pioneer in the environmental justice movement.
