Photos from 8 Days in June Festival - Paul Hitz
Precisely at 8pm, Tom Allen greeted the anxious crowd at the Music Box in the Max M. Fisher Music Center to start Day 3 of live performances at the 8 Days In June Music Festival in Detroit. 'Day 3 - The Technological Mind' included pieces and explanations from Tod Machover http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tod_Machover about his amazing software called Hyperscore by Harmony Line Music that allows users to create classical music arrangements on a PC after only 3-4 minutes of training.
Tod is currently the Professor of Music and Media at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge and had The Flux Quartet perform several of these works as the audience enjoyed and followed along on the projected computer screen above. The rest of the evening included more computer generated works, modern player pianos and other ways technology is being embraced by this edge of classical music.
