MCB's Cherie Stangis was over at The Artist Village of Detroit and had this to say about the Poets 4 Change '08 Event

"Poets 4 Change ’08 is a grass roots movement that the Ohio Spoken Word Poetry Community put together to promote political change and voter registration. Several states participated in this movement and the Artist Village Detroit did their part for the state of Michigan by holding an open mic night on Friday, August 15, 2008, sponsored by Oral Funk Poetry Productions. Hosted by Men-Tal, this even featured readings by several local poets. Backed by a blend of blues, jazz and hip hop, these poets spoke about matters near and dear to them.

The Artist Village of Detroit , also known as the Public Art Workz (PAWZ) http://www.publicartworkz.org is a non-profit organization striving to use murals as a way to force change and promote positive thinking within the community.

The Artist Village Detroit also holds an open mic poetry night every Saturday evening from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. featuring poetry, hip-hop, jazz, singing and live bands."
