In an effort to battle Metro Detroit’s rising unemployment, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit is teaming up with 89X and national indie rock band SHIROCK to host the “Everything Burns” tour benefit concert on Friday, February 13 at the Majestic Theatre. All proceeds will help Goodwill Industries provide the training, education and career services to help put Metro Detroiters back to work.

This concert also serves as the kickoff event for Generation Goodwill, a new initiative to give Metro Detroit’s students and young professionals the opportunity and inspiration to make a positive impact on the region. By creating this organization, Generation Goodwill hopes to collectively engage like-minded individuals to help others through philanthropic efforts. As a treat to concertgoers and supporters of Goodwill Detroit and Generation Goodwill, Caribou Coffee will offer free coffee at the event and attendees will have the chance to win prizes from popular Royal Oak merchants through the Royal Oak DDA.

Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit to kick off new young adult initiative at February 13 concert at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre

Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit is teaming up with indie rock band SHIROCK and 89X for the February 13 Detroit stop of SHIROCK’S “Everything Burns” tour. The show also features New York’s Lights Resolve and Detroit bands The Electric Playground and One Remains. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Goodwill Industries programs providing Metro Detroiters the education, training and career services they need to overcome employment barriers. In the past two years of the organization’s nearly 90-year history, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has placed more than 2,500 Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County individuals into new jobs and provided education, training and career assistance to thousands more in the region.

The concert is the official kickoff for Generation Goodwill, a new initiative of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit that will give young Metro Detroit adults the opportunity and inspiration to make a positive impact on the region’s success. Generation Goodwill is a community of students and young professionals who care about making the Detroit region a better place to live. The Detroit show is open for all ages on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Majestic Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m., and admission is $10 at the door. Discounted presale tickets are available for $5 at www.everythingburns.org. All presale ticket holders will receive a free compilation CD at the concert. "Especially in today’s economic climate, individuals throughout Metro Detroit struggle to overcome barriers that keep them from steady employment," said Russ Russell, Vice President of Development for Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. Funds raised February 13 will be earmarked specifically to benefit Goodwill Industries employment programs benefiting local United Way 2-1-1 clients in Metro Detroit. The February 13 event is one of 14 February stops on SHIROCK’S “Everything Burns” tour, during which the band is partnering with a local charity in each major city.
