2nd Annual Blowoff @ PJs Lager House - Wed-Sat March 4th-7th 2009

Last year PJ's Lager House started "The Blowoff"
they are doing it AGAIN THIS YEAR
Wednesday, March 4
2nd Annual Blowoff Weekend
w/Matt Jones, Sh! The Octopus, Chris Bathgate
10pm
$5

We heard there's a little something going on in Hamtramck this weekend but we prefer staying down here in Detroit, ourselves... things kick off nice and good with Matt Jones, a solo artist on Ypsilanti Records who has a unique cadence and sound. He really is just tops, I'm not quite sure how else to explain it! Check out the "Threadlines" composition on the 2005 Ypsilanti Records compilation for direct understanding. Chris Bathgate is a folk singer-songwriter who's taken the indie music world by storm since signing with Quite Scientific Records. Bathgate has received favorable coverage from Pitchfork and their compatriots, and has been compared to Sufjan Stevens and Iron & Wine. Of Sh! The Octopus, Kevin Eagan of blogcritics.org says, "Sh! The Octopus shows that Detroit still has some great music coming from its weary streets.
At the same time, Sh! The Octopus has appeal beyond Detroit, and they mix elements that are popular in modern indie rock."

Thursday, March 5
2nd Annual Blowoff Weekend
w/Tried In Absentia, The Atlas Moth, Flesh Eating Flesh
10pm
$5

Tried In Absentia was formed 5 years ago by five Detroit area friends. Often described as a "very angry Deftones," they consider themselves to be progressive metal. Hailing from Chicago, The Atlas Moth take their bluesy hometown roots and combine that with New Orleans style sludge & 60s psychedelic. Gritty and raw, yet thought out and insightful. If you grew up living in a swamp, wearing a Black Sabbath T-Shirt, and eating nothing but fried chicken, this is your band. Flesh Eating Flesh is the score to the graceless stumbling march of the apocalypse and articulating brutality through progressive song writing. In this band, five musicians with diverse influences come together to form one solid mindset and work towards one goal: to play faster, be heavier, and write with more inspiration, creating a product that is beyond the ordinary.

Friday, March 6
2nd Annual Blowoff Weekend
w/Hellmouth, Year of the Pig, Writhing
10pm
$5

Year of the Pig is here to lay waste to the Detroit music scene, and possibly the world over. The trio includes current and former members of Diegrinder and Chapstik. Year of the Pig opened for legendary group The Meatmen a few months ago. Hellmouth is four guys who want to play fast, aggressive, heavy music. It's back to the brutal basic with this group—not metal. Not punk. Not hardcore. It's a crossover of all three designed to create a soundtrack for pain, misery and the end of existence. Detroit's Writhing is a five-piece thrash death metal band.

This is a kickass show for the fans of heavier music in town.

Saturday, March 7
2nd Annual Blowoff Weekend
w/Detroit Crunkstar, Paul Andrew Ulysses Lamb, PreciseHero
10pm
$5

Detroit Crunkstar is nothing but good times; their first CD is a tribute to partying, good times, hiphop and low-down, dirty funk. With a pension for raising cups and dropping thick bass lines, the DCS has created a high energy and fun loving party that still maintains the character of their high profile funk/hiphop predecessors like Parliament, James Brown and Run DMC. Paul Andrew Ulysses Lamb delivers Blues Rock that's a crossbreed of deep seeded grooves, lightning riffs, and soulful melodies: a sound that creates a perfect backdrop for his heartfelt lyrical memoirs of life on the road. It's been just over a year since PreciseHero's "Particle (moments)" debuted to the world.

Now, teamed up with Obsidian Blue, Hero readies his new project "Daydreamer Dialogue".
