WEIRD POP WEDNESDAYS @ Lager House Detroit

Lo & Behold (a little independent Detroit publishing company) will be grooving at the Lager House in Detroit the first four Wednesdays in September. It's a short series called WEIRD POP WEDNESDAYS hosted by DJ JEFF F (Known around town for his bass work with Heroes & Villains/Timmy's Organism, and super-fuzzy spaced-out lead guitar work with the recently formed Infinite Land of Make Believe). Each Wednesday will feature artists we hope publish in the very near future, we are holding these shows to raise money for the cost, so please come out and support independent print/press of some beautiful local artists.

Last week was the kickoff with Motherwhale and Macrame Tiger

Wednesday, September 9th, will find us breaking bread with THE POTIONS and THE QUESTIONS, two bands led by some strange men: THE POTIONS a four-piece, being led by Dave Morrison (an axe wielding wild man with "the jinx all around"), spend most of their time in the graveyard digging up traditional musical bones, bringing them back to life by casting strange incantations upon them until they are odd skeletons doing a jig upon their graves—alive with THE POTIONS own brand of hoodoo jive; THE QUESTIONS, following the path (as Dante of Virgil) of poet Drew Bardo, are a rolling thunder of a band, striking lightning upon it audience with a little help from the Gods of Fuzztone and little bit o' soul sellin' to the devil out somewhere near the crossroads. Drew Bardo asks the "questions" to the ancients and gods of past, they are answered with fire and thunder. THE QUESTIONS music is only the translation of this ancient reply.

Wednesday, September 16th, will be taking us to a very strange place indeed, we will be dining with EARWIGS in THE INFINITE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE: EARWIGS lead a life of seclusion (as does this band who we don't see enough of), they are found in dark places eating that hidden Beggin' Strip the dog lost 'neath the stove, and making effective, minimal, electric folk with a punk tinge worthy of K Records circa 1988. EARWIGS enjoy damp areas (preferably whisky & gin soaked), long walks 'neath the log, and hopes to meet a nice Dermapteran to dance around the room with; THE INFINITE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE is the national anthem to the imagination, a band truly considered Weird Pop. Painter/Singer/songwriter Ernie Fackler (of Heroes & Villains/Magi) and his delayed acoustic guitar is backed by air organ, super-fuzzy lead guitar, and a simple (cymbal/snare/floor tom) percussion setup, reaching far beyond the lighthouse of conventional chord progressions, into a land of strangeness and beauty where stratospheric royalty can be serenaded by lavender lungfish as they ride across the sky on their Barretted Terrapin turtles.

Wednesday, September 23rd, is a date hidden beneath the blanket of wonder. It's a special event reserved for the curious and the brave. There is nothing new under the sun, but there may be something there for everyone . . .
