Wild At Heart

Wild At Heart

I have been having fun working for the US Census, esp getting out and finding new places and restaurants to try out. One such restauant is located in Commerce TWP on Union lake Road. It is called 'It's A Matter Of Taste' and it does tend to be more gourmet style. I started off with a barley beef soup followed by a Grilled Salmon Club which was very good. The place had a nice atmosphere with a nice view of the lake and a nice carryout area. If you are looking for something more unique, you might want to check it out. You can get their menu at http://www.matteroftaste.net/.

Another thing on my travels that sounded interesting is that The Lakeland Skating Program is putting on a production called "The Grinch On Ice" on Monday, Dec 14th. It is a free event and they accept canned goods donations to benefit the Open Door Outreach Center and other charities. The show starts at 5PM.

For those still looking for work, make sure to look into Census jobs at www.2010censusjobs. gov. Every 10 years, a census of our population is conducted. The results help determine how federal funds are spent in your community on things like roads, parks, and other public services, as well as your representation in government. As a census taker, you'll help to make sure that everyone in your community is counted. The jobs are for the Spring and the pay between $11-16 per hour. Getting the jobs is based on test scores. You can call 1-866-861-2010 to schedule a time to take the test right now and you can go to the above website for more info and a downloadable practice test.

WIN TICKETS: Joanne Shaw Taylor @ Callahan's this Thursday. Joanne is a sexy guitar chick that at the age of 16 her skills at the Telecaster were so perfect that the blues fan and Eurythmics-frontman Dave Stewart asked her to join his supergroup D.U.P. to tour Europe in 2002. She started playing guitar at 8 and count SRV, Albert Collins, the Paladins and Jimi Hendrix as early influenced which is showcased by her rich bluesy style. Her debut album "White Sugar" showcases this young British woman's talent with ten songs that she wrote herself. If you would like to see her perform live at Callahan's, send me an email @ doramu13@yahoo.com and I'll hook up the first responder with a pair.

A lot of us hope that when we post stuff on youtube, that we might get a bunch of hits and maybe some buzz that gets us noticed. That is what happened when Randy Stine uploaded a video of his college a cappella group Straight No Chaser from Indiana University doing a version of "The 12 Days of Christmas". 10,000,000 hits later and a record deal has landed the group 2 albums in the Billboard Top 200 album charts and a national tour which hit Royal Oak this past weekend. I have been looking for something to get me in the holiday spirit and the groups unique arrangements and some original material led to a fun night which also included a number of songs ranging from the Token's "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" to Toto's "Africa" along with covers of songs by Amy Winehouse and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. While their two albums are holiday themed, I do hope they release some of their more mainstream songs. If this groups comes through town again, they definately put on a worthwhile show.

During the holiday there are plenty of opportunities to help those less fortunate and one such time this holiday season is at the Toys for Tots fundraiser at the Hard Rock Café on Thursday December 10th. Toys for Tots is a great and simple way to spread some holiday cheer this year to those who are less fortunate. This program which was founded in 1947 by the United States Marine Corp is truly a blessing to those in need that may not be able to provide their children with a gift for the holidays. The mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys and to distribute them as gifts to needy children. Music is provided by 7 Million Jigawatts and Kevin Roney. Admission is free with a new unwrapped toy or a $5 donation at the door. Hope to see you there!

Have a good week everyone and I'll catch you next week.
