TONIGHT: Light in the Darkness: Architectural Preservation's Promise

Detroit photographer Allan Machielse will be staging an art show opening entitled LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS: Architectural Preservation’s Promise.

Allan Machielse has been photographing buildings in Detroit and environs since 2006, when he began the study of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University. Architectural training informs his vision of the city's sublime monuments as threatened ruins. Although a 'straight-shooter,' his photographs transcend documentation, becoming artistic statements that probe the question of historic preservation as the city's path to revival. Images which both celebrate and mourn Detroit's grandiose structures evoke comparisons with antiquity. Dark, abandoned interiors are infused with an ethereal light offering the promise of rediscovery and renewal. These wrenching 'still lifes' have been shown in solo and group exhibits at Royal Oak, Detroit and Hamtramck galleries.

The Future 2 Casper Gallery in Royal Oak is proud to host Allan Machielse’s photography show and invites attendees to experience an evening of reflection & live music.
