Detroit Premiere of locally produced Sitcom Pilot,

Mackinac Black

On January 25th local comedian, improviser and writer Mike Targus will be premiering his sitcom pilot, Mackinac Black at The Elizabeth Theater (located above the Park Bar and Bucharest Grill in Downtown Detroit).  The sitcom was filmed completely in Detroit (mostly at Motor City Brewery Works), featuring a Detroit leading cast.

Mackinac Black takes place in a microbrewery in Detroit and tells the story of the its staff and owners. There is no place like it, yet it's as much the voyeur's home as it is the inhabitants…Mackinac Black is fueled by the idea that we as society can still be going in the right direction even if we find ourselves seemingly making all the wrong choices. The characters and the setting of the Mackinac Black Brewery itself can be likened to a broken clock, in that, for even amidst their longest strings of poor decisions they can still be right now and again, perhaps even twice a day.

Mike Targus graduated from Wayne State University in 2006 with a BFA in acting.  While pursuing his acting degree, Mike studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City, Improv Olympic in Chicago and Second City in Detroit.  After graduating he helped Jerry Belanger to found and open the Park Bar.  He since then spent several years Chicago and frequently performed there.  He currently runs his production company, Hot Snow Productions, and is based out of Los Angeles.

Mike and the director of the show, Eric Townsend, saw using the city for principle shooting as a great opportunity to make sure people knew that Detroit's film community was still very much open for business, no matter how frivolous or without worth some politicians would like to have us think it is.  Mr. Targus was quoted after the project wrapped shooting on location in Downtown Detroit, "I'd challenge anyone who was touched by this project, to say that the City of Detroit wasn't just that little bit better, during the time we spent here. Artists creating and spending money, carpenters creating and spending money... You add all those 'little bits' together and you can move mountains.  This may have been a microcosm of what the industry could mean to this city and state, but the way I see it, the positive energy along with the exchange of goods and services amongst local business and community members speak volumes."

Mike recently spent a month in Detroit to film the pilot episode of his original sitcom series Mackinac Black, which is set to premiere in Detroit on January 25th.

 Admission is free.
