Show Review with Pics! Nervo at V Nighclub, Jan 12, 2013

Saturday night was my first time at V Nightclub inside MGM Grand Detroit, mostly due to the fact I’ll lose money at the casino before I ever set foot in the club. It’s not MGM’s fault that I’m just a slot machine sucker. So, even after losing the requisite $60 in slots I was still thrilled to set foot in V Nightclub and then move those same feet to Nervo. V Nightclub is shaped in a huge oval, like a football with a long bar one side and the dancing on the other. It’s a pretty swanky club with people dressing up, more security than your average club, with a large bar staff that must have super hearing powers to hear the drink orders over the music throbbing from the DJ booth directly behind them.

The Nervo twins, Mim and Liv took over DJ controls at midnight and let the crowd know they just played one of their best sets yet in Toronto and wondered if Detroit had what it took to top it. With a packed house that had “party” painted on their expressions, the crowd didn’t let Nervo down. The bar area and DJ booth were surrounded by people dancing and snapping photos. Drinks were dispensed magically as the bar seemed like an impenetrable place to get to and yet everyone seemed to always have a drink in hand.

Nervo’s music was a blast of aggressively fun dance without any let up but filled with constant high moments with fog blasters erupting. Styrofoam rainbow glowsticks were tossed out to the crowd throughout the night and sometime around the middle of their set confetti fell and it felt like it was New Year’s Eve all over again.

V Nightclub gets high marks for knowing how to throw an event where everyone feels like a VIP. Likewise, the enthusiasm for Nervo is so strong a bystander near me had their name etch-shaved on back of his head. I’m not about make any radical hair styling decisions because of Nervo’s competency behind decks but I will make sure I catch their local next DJ set.
