Satellite's trip through Ferndale's skies:: show review :: 4/5 at The Magic Bag

The saturated colors and fuzzed out visuals of the Magic Bag in Ferndale set the perfect back drop for the soon to be audible ambiance. An entirely full house awaited the stripped down version of Nashville's handsome chaps, Satellite. Steven McMorran and Josh Dunahoo brought machismo to the Ferndale stage beginning at, what felt like the peak of anticipation. McMorran vocally brought confident male icons of real country music. Country music that began a realm of pop country crossover in his vocals. I heard Dwight Yoakam and Randy Travis and he stood like Johnny Cash. Some performers lean forward into their dreadnaught six stringed instrument, McMorran leaned back showing secure footing in his delivery of what he's singing to you. His voice stayed everywhere it needed to be and ventured no where it didn't need. The strumming stayed ambient and wooden and acoustic like acoustic guitars before they shoved electronics and pickups inside. His accompaniment, an etherial wind of slide electric guitar, pedal board produced pleasant ringing of genre breaking instrument confusion. A blend of modern and traditional. Tristan Prettyman headlined the evening as a trio, touring in support of a new EP "Cedar + Gold". Also having been on Leno recently she carried the same enthusiasm with the song "Say Anything" as on big time television. She's one to say great things about. A great act thankful and humble to be in the right place at the right time towards certain future success.
