UPCOMING: Julianna Barwick plays Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit on 04/13

Julianna Barwick brings her ambient soundscapes to Detroit's Museum of Contemporary Art on this Sunday, April 13, 2014. In 2013, Barwick released her third album, Nepenthe, which got hailed by Pitchfork as Best New Music. Nepenthe was also part of NPR's First Listen program, and featured by FADER Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. Barwick credits her unique sound to her rural, church upbringing. Most of her tracks begin with a single phrase or refrain and then utilize a loop station as well as a piano or percussion to build the song into an ambient, ethereal masterpiece.

During the past year, Barwick opened for The Flaming Lips, Sigur Ros, and Phosphorescent as well as playing her own live headlining dates. In 2011, she performed at Chicago's famed Pitchfork Music Festival. She also played on Sharon Van Etten's 2012 album, Tramp, remixed Radiohead's  song "Reckoner" and has had her own work remixed by Diplo and Prince Rama. This Sunday's MOCAD show is sure to be a breathtaking experience.
