Throughout May: Lit in the Mitt celebration of literature!

going on now all around metro Detroit

Lit in the Mitt Month is a celebration of the literary arts in Detroit. Throughout May 2014, an alliance of Detroit organizations are curating an extraordinary array of events including author appearances, book swaps, poetry readings, and literary talks throughout the city that will build and broaden its distinctive literary culture.

Detroit is rich with literary offerings.  Its residents are well-read and restlessly creative.  And yet, our literary culture still finds itself on the far-back pages of our arts and culture publications, and most literary events go unnoticed by the general public.

This May, that all changes.

An alliance of Detroit groups has joined forces to create Lit in the Mitt Month, a coordinated effort to draw attention to Detroit’s support of the literary arts via its vibrant and diverse cultural community.  By curating an extraordinary array of author events, book swaps, poetry readings, and literary talks throughout the city, Lit in the Mitt will build and broaden Detroit’s distinctive literary culture.
