This exhibit of linocut prints is based on the artist's recollections of his mother, Louise Wilson, after coming to the realization that he didn't know her very well at all. The work is larger than just recounting her life. It is a look at what we expect from family, especially our parents. It is about dashed expectations. It is about the need to accept others for what they are. And it is about "one of the purest pleasures" had by the artist as a child: to sneak and smell her open purse, which always smelled like Juicy Fruit gum.

Carl Wilson currently lives and works in Hamtramck. His work has been shown in local, national and international exhibitions. In 2013 he received a Kresge Artist Fellowship in the Visual Arts.
