Steve Wynn - Kiki's House of Righteous Music, Madison, WI - October 11, 2014

Three weeks after his band, The Baseball Project, played at Kiki’s House of Righteous Music, Steve Wynn returned to play a solo show.  If you are not familiar with Kiki’s house, she has been hosting basement concerts for years in her quiet Madison neighborhood.  She only sells 50 tickets so it is always a very intimate and up close experience.  Mr. Wynn played an electric guitar with a “Neil Young” distortion sound.  He opened strong with three Dream Syndicate selections, “Days of Wine and Roses”, “Tell Me When It’s Over” and “Burn”.  Adding a harmonica gave it a folkie Bob Dylan twang to it.  He followed with songs from his solo lps, a Gutterball song, and two from the Baseball Project including my request “Harvey Haddix”.  The encore included a great version of Lou Reed’s “Coney island Baby” and “When You Smile”, another fantastic Dream Syndicate song.  After the show, he sold merch and stayed to talk with everyone.  We had a great chat about Alex Chilton, seeing the Dream Syndicate in Madison, and the Milwaukee Brewers collapse this year (don’t remind me).
