"RAISING THE ANCHOR OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD" DOCUMENTARY TO BE PRESENTED AT THE DOSSIN GREAT LAKES MUSEUM THIS SUNDAY

DETROIT - The Detroit Historical Society continues its monthly film series with "Raising the Anchor of the Edmund Fitzgerald" at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Sunday, November 9 at 2 p.m.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was lost with her entire crew of 29 men on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975, 17 miles north-northwest of Whitefish Point, Michigan. In 1971, prior to the Fitz's sinking, the ship dropped a bow anchor in the Detroit river. View actual footage of the Detroit River dive that brought up the anchor of the ill-fated ship, whose launch and history are also portrayed throughout the film. The running time for the film is 48 minutes.

The Detroit Historical Society will host its final film screening for the fall series at the Dossin Museum on December 14, when "Rouse Simmons: The Christmas Tree Ship" will be screened.

The Dossin Great Lakes Museum, located at 100 Strand Drive on Belle Isle, is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free for all, all the time. Permanent exhibits include Built by the River in the John A. and Marlene L.
