UPCOMING! Zap Mama & Antibalas on Feb. 6, 2015 at Music Hall Center Detroit + AFTERPARTY

Our friends at Detroit's Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts welcome the rare pairing of famed Afrobeat/Afro-pop stars Zap Mama and Antibalas to Detroit.  The not to be missed show takes place on Friday, February 6th at 8pm.
Belgian Afro-pop artist Marie Daulne, better known as Zap Mama, has been making a name for herself in the Afro-pop world since the release of her debut album in 1991. Her music blends infused African vocal techniques, with influence from American Hip Hop, Nu-Soul, and Jazz with Pop sensibilities. Her music utilizes European polyphony, which means that there's more than one featured line of melody. Zap Mama has collaborated with a who's who of known musicians including Alanis Morrisette, G. Love, Sergio Mendez, Common, Talib Kweli, Michael Franti, Questlove, King Britt, Erykah Badu, The Roots, DJ Krush and Detroit's own techno pioneer, Carl Craig.
Brooklyn-based Afro-beat outfit, Antibalas, blend elements of Jazz, Funk, and dub with Afro-beat inspired by Music hall favorite, Fela Kuti. The band also places emphasis on the traditional drumming of Cuba and West Africa. Speaking of the Music Hall, Antibalas arranged and performed the score for Broadway musical "Fela", which has made its way to the Music Hall for two runs.
