TONIGHT: The Rentals & Rey Pila performing tonight May 18th at The Loving Touch Ferndale USA

The Rentals & Rey Pila will be performing tonight May 18th at The Loving Touch.

For The Rentals this will mark their first Detroit performance in nearly a decade, in support of their acclaimed 2014 album, Lost In Alphaville, which Rolling Stone called, "a tasty slice of indie pop that's not too sweet,” and Pitchfork called, “a bold step into the unknown.”

With Lost In Alphaville Matt Sharp kicked the dust off The Rentals name, bringing together an all-star cast of musicians to record with, including Patrick Carney (The Black Keys) on drums, Holly Laessig & Jess Wolfe of Lucuis on female vocals, Ryan Slegr (Ozma) on guitar & Lauren Chipman (The Section Quartet) on viola/piano, with Sharp producing, playing bass & synths, and mixing by maestro D. Sardy (Jay Z/U2), creating the finest Rentals album to date.  Keeping the musical-collective tradition that Sharp has always employed with the band alive, the ever evolving, ever revolving door of guest Rentals collaborators on this tour will feature Shawn Glassford (Starf**ker) on bass and synthesizers, Lizzy Ellison & Patti King (Radiation City) on vocals and synthesizers, Ryen Slegr (Ozma) on guitar, Ted Gowans (Tegan & Sara) on guitar,

Jared Shavelson on drums who will all swirl around Sharp’s deadpan vocals while he wildly conducts the onstage analog synth madness.  You can watch live footage from the band’s Los Angeles performance last September in the video for the single “1000 Seasons” & download Lost In Alphaville here.

Mexico City’s Rey Pila will release their sophomore album, The Future Sugar, this summer on Cult Records, and join The Rentals leading in, premiering new single, “What A Nice Surprise”, this week via SPIN, who called it, "a glittering build-up of reverberating synths and ’80s-inspired guitar licks."
The Future Sugar was recorded in New York City with producer Chris Coady (Beach House/Wavves) and caught the ears of Julian Casablancas, who signed the band to Cult Records in 2013, releasing the single  “Alexander” in late 2013, and following with “Blast” last July.  Rey Pila spent the fall on tour supporting Interpol, performing on Last Call with Carson Daly twice, and at Austin City Limits Festival, causing the Austin American-Statesman to ask, “Is Rey Pila the coolest band performing Saturday at ACL?” and KEXP to add, “Mixing the sounds of Roxy Music, Simple Minds… Rey Pila make great new wave music for a new generation of fans.”
