“Plastic Dreams,” our look into our love of vinyl continues with a film series dedicated to the vinyl enthusiast, and their obsession with the physical format. This wide-ranging collection of films aims to show us the devotion and connection many feel to the format, and inspires us to consider our instinct to romanticize nostalgic eras gone by.

The series will take place every Wednesday in August and will also incorporate short films, discussions and other events relevant to the subject matter of each week’s film.

Desperate Man Blues
Directed by Ed Gillan, Desperate Man Blues tells the story of self-proclaimed king of record collectors Joseph E. Bussard, Jr. of Frederick Maryland. Joe has amassed probably the greatest collection of 78 rpm recordings of country, blues, jazz, cajun and gospel music in the world. He has spent most of of his waking hours in pursuit of old 78s. To call it a hobby would be an insult: It’s his life.
